Introduction
In today’s information-saturated world, technology grows faster than crops. New devices become obsolete within months, every pharmaceutical company is only one medication away from an industry-changing breakthrough. The end result is a world where humanity is always finding new reasons to reshuffle the elements that nature provides. To provide platform, to enable growing minds such opportunities, the University of Kotli launched Department of Chemistry in the fall 2015 and ever since it was established, the Department has carried out the tradition of excellence in maintaining high-quality teaching and in pursuing vigorous teaching and research programs aiming for enhancing personal education and contribution to growth of human society by enabling students to be chemist required from chemical industries.
The Department of Chemistry consists of a strong teaching and research team. It offers undergraduate and graduate programs. About 100 undergraduate students and 150 graduate students are enrolled in the department. The training of the undergraduate students aims for comprehensive qualification with skills and knowledge system covering each of the sub-field of chemistry. While the training of graduate students aims for specialists engaged in creative research in the related fields, such as chemical engineering, chemical biology, medicine, material, environment, etc. We offer BS Chemistry 04 year’s program, and M.Sc. Chemistry and Master of Philosophy in Chemistry 02 year’s degree programs. The department is planning to offer BS Chemistry, M.Sc. Chemistry and Master of Philosophy in Chemistry Degrees in all secondary disciplines in chemistry.
In the quest of academic excellence, the Department is dedicated to providing the best quality and up-to-date education for our students. Key content of core chemistry courses on general, organic, inorganic, biochemistry and physical chemistry are designed specifically to provide the breadth of contemporary chemistry-related knowledge. Academically rigorous courses in chemical biology and nanomaterials have also been incorporated into our curriculum. With a thought-provoking environment dedicated to critical and creative thinking, our graduates are well equipped and expected to make a contribution to chemistry.
Mission
- To equip our students with the conceptual and experimental tools required to understand and manipulate the molecular world and to span the traditional areas of chemistry as well as the interdisciplinary frontiers.
- To provide students with an intellectual environment and a specialized body of knowledge that are conducive to their academic development, their proficiency in laboratory techniques, and their professional growth.
- To emphasize independent and collaborative research where students can participate in the creation and dissemination of new knowledge, and where they can integrate and apply the chemical knowledge and skills they have learned in their courses in the context of original work.
- To provide a basic understanding of chemistry and the scientific method that will enable our students to evaluate critically and make informed decisions on issues relating to science, technology, society and nation.
- To give a major boost to the existing teaching and research programs, initiate new research activities in selected disciplines and achieve excellence.
Job Opportunities
A chemist is in great demand in all fields of their relevance from the chemical industry to academia and research and development sectors. There are a vast scope and job opportunities for chemist in science and pharmaceuticals, engineering and manufacturing, teaching and education, and other job sectors. The programs provide threshold knowledge so as to generate the skilled manpower for job markets as analytical chemists, chemical engineers, healthcare scientists, clinical biochemists, forensic scientists, research scientists, toxicologist, environmental consultants, higher education lecturers, nuclear engineers, science writers etc. Moreover, our graduates can find the scope of degree programs in chemical and related industries, such as: agrochemicals, metallurgical, petrochemicals, pharmaceuticals, plastics and polymers, toiletries.
