Role of Directorate

The Directorate of Students Financial Aid (DSFA) acts as a principal administrator of the Student Financial Assistance and Employment Office and manages a student financial aid program consisting of state and local funds every year. The DSFA oversees the receipt, evaluation, and approval of requests for all programs establishes procedures for the conduct and recording of student transactions, ensures the effective and efficient use of financial assistance management systems and prepares or oversees the preparation of all necessary and ad-hoc requests. It ensures that the due course is observed in each program, while efforts are directed to facilitate the respective students.

The moto of the DSFA is “to deliver the services without compromising the merit.”

Operation and programs administered by DSFA

Students selected for admission to various courses/ programs can apply for departmental merit scholarships paid to three merit holders (top three positions). In the final year, the scholarship is awarded on merit in the previous term/semester. The scholarship is granted for a maximum period of 12 calendar months. Some scholarships from donor agencies and state, as mentioned below are also available to students:

• Fauji Foundation
• Bait-ul-Mal
• Qarz-e-Hasna from all banks
• Scholarships offered by Higher Education Commission e.g. Ehsaas Undergraduate Scholarship (launched by HEC through the support of Pakistan govt. in last quarter of 2019), and HEC Need-Based Scholarships.
• The prime minister of Pakistan fee reimbursement program (discontinued for new enrollments).
• Azad Jammu & Kashmir Government is very generous in sanctioning zakat scholarships. A large number of deserving students are getting the full benefit from this facility.
• The Ministry of Kashmir Affairs and the Overseas Pakistani Foundation also provide scholarships to the deserving students.
• Habib Bank Foundation Platinum Scholarship

In addition to the HEC Need-Based and French Need-Based Scholarships, the DSFA is also responsible for the Prime minister's Laptop Scheme and Fee Reimbursement Program (discontinued for new enrollments). The DSFA has distributed hundreds of laptops among selected students. For programs launched via HEC, the students have to register themselves on HEC's portal and they are later verified by the departmental focal persons. Then DSFA verifies the students who are registered with HEC. The directorate has already distributed above 20 million Rupees among the students in this program.

Note: A student is eligible for only one kind of scholarship at a time. The scholarship committee invites application from the students for the grant of scholarships on merit basis.
